Drug overdose deaths spiked in first half of 2019

After three years of declining figures, an upswing appears to have happened in the number of Indiana Countians who are dying of drug overdoses, at least through the first half of this year.

“The total I have as of this date is 21,” county Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. said Sunday.

Previously, Overman reported 53 overdose deaths in 2016, 40 in 2017 and 28 in 2018. If the present pace continues for the last six months of this year, Indiana County could see a stark rise in drug-related deaths year over year.
