NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) –
Tens of thousands of lives were lost last year across the U.S. to an opioid overdose.
The numbers would be even higher if overdose victims wouldn’t have had access to the opioid antidote, Narcan.
“It reverses the affect of an opioid. As soon as you can administer that drug, the better,” says Lt. Jonathan Fourcade.
Lt. Fourcade, with New Orleans EMS, says Narcan or Naloxone is truly a life saver. The number of doses being administered by EMS is up, which Fourcade says speaks volumes about the opioid crisis and the amount of people on drugs.
