Local hospital giving personal support to patients fighting addiction

Did you know drug overdoses are the leading cause of death in the U.S for people under the age of 50? That information comes from the Illinois Department of Human Services. IDHS is trying to cut that number by expanding access to opioid misuse treatments.

Opioid abuse is a growing problem. Most people know someone dealing with addiction. That’s why Southern Illinois Healthcare is providing personal support directly to patients suffering from it. It’s called the Emergency Department Warm Hand Off Program and SIH Community Benefits Manager Angie Bailey said it’s working.
