‘Narcan in my purse’: Overdose antidote training expands to public as opioid epidemic continues

Andy O’Brien dove right into the topic of abuse of opiates like heroin or prescription pills. People need help and DuPage County needs help combating the problem, he said.

“We can’t help people get better if they are dead,” said O’Brien, a clinician with the DuPage County Health Department. For that reason, O’Brien and DuPage County health officials gave Narcan, the naloxone antidote spray, to everyone in attendance Wednesday at a meeting for the public where those in attendance were trained on how to administer the overdose reversal drug.
