NHP troopers to carry Narcan to respond to opioid overdoses

Troopers with Nevada Highway Patrol will soon be carrying Narcan, or naloxone, to counteract possible overdoses of opioids or heroin.

In a statement released Thursday, NHP said troopers have begun training with the drug to administer it in the field, and each trooper would carry two doses of the nasal spray version.

A person suffering from an opioid overdose has about 45-90 minutes to reverse the effects before death, according to NHP.
