Ohio to give nearly $3 million to tech business making abuse-resistant opioid

Ohio plans to give $3 million to a business that’s working to make an abuse-free prescription pain medication as part of an effort to reduce overdose deaths in the state.

Elysium Therapeutics has work underway on “a new class of opioid pain relievers that protect individuals from oral misuse, abuse, and fatal overdose” to combat┬áthe opioid-overdose epidemic.

The funding is part of up to $20 million in grants that Gov. John Kasich requested to advance new, high-tech solutions to the opioid crisis.
