RAYS OF HOPE PIERCE CLOUD OF ADDICTION

Postponed for a month because of relentless winter weather, the State of Addiction in McHenry County forum held news that was worth waiting for.

For the second consecutive year, the number of deaths from opioid abuse in McHenry County has declined.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally reported that, as of the Feb. 25 gathering at McHenry County College, only one overdose death had occurred in the county in 2019, compared to 15 during the same period in 2017, and eight over that time frame in 2018 (see box).

“There’s some kind of Providence here,” Kenneally said.
